Abstract

This paper illustrates the benefits of using first-person introspective accounts to investigate and assess the learning processes of short-term sojourners. In particular, it focuses on the application and analysis of the diaries of Hong Kong Chinese students who participated in a five-week sojourn in England.

Author Biography

Jane Jackson

Jane Jackson joined the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995. She is Associate Professor in the Department of English where she is Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies in Applied English Linguistics. She teaches courses in intercultural communication, language acquisition, second language classroom research, and curriculum design. Her research interests include case-based learning and teaching in second language contexts, intercultural communication, cultural identity formation and second language acquisition.
